*Thorvald Niss began his career painting at the Royal Porcelain factory in DK. His passionate depictions of nature and marine life is what made him a world renown artist. A painter of the Danish school, Niss most typically executed water scenes and landscapes. He was a student of the painter Otto Bache (1839-1927) at the Academy of Copenhagen. He exhibited his pieces in various locales, including Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna and Paris. In 1882, he was awarded a gold medal in Vienna, followed by medals in Paris at the Expositions Universelles of 1889 and 1900. |
